Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has assured Muslim faithfuls in the State that the move to demolish the Adogba Mosque at Iwo Road was not in a bad spirit but for the betterment and development of the state.
Governor Makinde who attended the Jumaat service at Adogba Mosque, Iwo Road on Friday October 18, 2019 addressed the Muslim faithfuls and assured them that there is plan in place to build a befitting mosque in the area which would double the size of the one to be demolished and would be a point of reference to all other mosques in the state. The governor also added that the building of the mosque will begin with a personal donation from him.
Makinde also made it known that the move has no religious colouration and that he hated no one for his/ her beliefs.
He said “If I hurt Muslims, I have hurt myself because 60 percent of the Makinde’s in the state are Muslims. Also, if we look at the hierarchy of the administration in Oyo state, four out of six top personnel in the state are Muslims, so you should not be deceived that Makinde prefers faithfuls of one religion to the other.
“My purpose for being here is to correct the notion that we want to demolish Adogba Mosque, it is true we want to demolish it, the church adjacent the mosque will be demolished as well but it is for the good and development of the state”.

The governor also called for inclusive and good brotherhood ties among the citizens of the state.
He said, “when they tell you lies about any religion, tell them that the most important thing is that we should make heaven and it is our work and deeds that will lead us to heaven”.
The governor made it known that he is set to run a transparent administration in the state and all members of the state should be ready to ask his government any questions they deem necessary for the development of the state.
In addition, he said the plan for Iwo Road is the economic prosperity of all citizens of the state who do their legal businesses at the Iwo Road axis.
