FG Agrees to Legalise Amotekun

Federal government and the south western governors have reached the agreement to craft a legal framework for the new security network in the south west region of the country -code-named: Amotekun.

This was made know by the Governor of Info state, Rotimi Akeredolu. He disclosed this to the state house correspondents after a meeting with the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday.

Akeredolu stated that the legal framework will help resolve all “burning issues” surrounding the security network.

The Ondo state governor also made it know that the legal framework for the outfit was presented to appropriate offices before the launch on January 9. Akeredolu said the inspector-general of police and other “relevant security agencies” were consulted earlier.

He also stated that Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice, who had described the outfit as illegal, was part of the meeting with the security agencies.
