‘It is important to have a good government that will shun all forms of corrupt practices.’ This and other thought-provoking points were highlighted by an 11-year-old Nigerian high school student, Naomi Oloyede at E4J Initiative High-Level Conference on Corruption, organized by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria.
Her motivating speech indeed brought people to their feet, honouring her with a standing ovation.
Miss Oloyede passionately appealed to leaders, policymakers, educators, administrators. She said ‘the future of children is in the hands of parents, leaders and policymakers. I plead with you to join hands together to make our world a better, safer and more inclusive space’.
Naomi Oloyede was chosen to represent Nigeria after excelling in a debate which topic was ‘How to Combat Corruption in Nigeria’. This excellence has earned her an opportunity to be selected as one of Step-Up Nigeria’s Young Anti Corruption and E4J Champions.
She started the advocacy right from the debate where she gave points of the abilities a young person has to fight corruption.
Reacting to the standing ovation given her by the audience, she said: ‘the speech I gave attracted a standing ovation from everybody there.
I was proud of myself and my country, Nigeria, which I represented.
