The member of National Assembly representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency of Osun State, Honourable Bamidele Salami, in collaboration with the Nigeria Teachers’ Institute held a Bursary/Empowerment Programme for students and teachers within the Constituency on Tuesday 3rd October, 2022 at Camp Young, Ede, Osun State, Nigeria.
In his opening remark, the Director General, Nigeria Teachers’ Institute, ably represented by Mr. Bashir Aliyu stated that the significance of supporting education of future generation for ecocomic and political development cannot be overemphasized. He added that “no nation can rise above the level of it’s education”, thus underscoring the urgent need for the government to finance the education sector.
The National Assembly Member, Honourable Bamidele Salami, while welcoming dignitaries at the event emphasised on the role young people play in the development of any nation.
“This programme, at its foundation, is meant to touch students of tertiary Institution. In the last three years or thereabout that I have had the opportunity to serve as a member, House of Representatives, I have decided to put education on the priority of things that must be tackled as leaders of this Country ”
His Royal Highness, Alawo of Awo, HRH Oba Taiwo AbdulRazaq Adegoye lamented on the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). He promised the participants at the event of the traditional leaders’ unflinching support to end the strike. He also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Honourable Salami for his undaunted love for education and the development of the Community.
The Deputy Governor-elect, Prince Kola Adewusi commended the facilitator of the programme and urged citizens to be decisive when voting in people into political offices. He advised students present not to be used as political thugs as the 2023 general election approaches.
‘As it is generally known, an idle man is a devil’s workshop, please don’t do what will mar your personal integrity,” he advised the participants.
Two hundred (200) secondary school students got N10,000 each while three hundred and thirty (330) tertiary students got N20,000 each. Present during the bursary and empowerment programme were political party leaders from the state, students from Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo and Egbedore Federal Constituency and constituents.
