The Oyo State Unit of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, has embarked on a campaign to sensitize citizens in the State about Coronavirus.
The sensitization campaign, which kick-started from Oke-Padi to the Ogunpa Market and ended at the Dugbe Market, in Ibadan, the State capital, was led and coordinated by the Oyo State Director of the Agency, Mrs. Dolapo Dosunmu.
While addressing newsmen after the sensitization tour, the Oyo State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Dosunmu, said the campaign against Coronavirus became necessary after the Coronavirus epidemic hit over 100 countries, Nigeria inclusive.
She stated, “We have come to their base to sensitize them on what they need to know to protect themselves from contacting the Coronavirus. Just as we have told them, when somebody has consistent headache and running of nose or catarrh that will not go, very high fever and coughing that is persistent, the next thing to do is to consult a physician nearest to you.”
Dosunmu however, urged political office holders and traditional and religious leaders to champion the campaign against the Coronavirus epidemic in their localities.
She said, “It’s important for religious leaders to key in to this sensitization. We need them to help us tell their congregation, on Sundays and on Fridays, to observe these simple steps to avoid contamination. For NOA, we have gathered them together and will continue to do so, so that they can help us spread these safety tips to their congregation.”
According to the World Health Organization, there are close to 130,000 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus, with more than 4,700 deaths reported across the world.
There are however no reported cases of the Coronavirus in Oyo State.
