The Oyo state Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Mr Oluwaseun Fakorede has called on all youths in the state to reliquish the old ways and bring on new innovations that will see Oyo state to a greater height among other states in the country.
He made this call during a courtesy visit made to him by the National Youth Coincil of Nigeria (NYCN), Oyo state chapter.
The chairperson NYCN in Oyo State Ambassador Mrs. Agbeja Adebobola led a delegation of the leadership of the umbrella body of youth organizations, to the office of the youngest commissioner on the 15th of October, 2019.
Mr Oluwaseun Fakorede who was appointed by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to steer the leadership of the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development said it is a fulfilment of one of the promises of the governor to engage youths in his administration.
While receiving the apex body of youths in his office, Fakorede said ‘I am glad and proud to be part and one of you. My ministry has officially met with the leadership of youths in Oyo state.
‘Whatever we will do in this Ministry will be in the best interest of all of us, and it is not a mistake that I am here. Thanks to my principal, the executive governor, who deem it fit for someone in the official age bracket of youth to oversee the affairs of youths of Oyo state,’ He added.
After the introductions of the delegates, the NYCN chairperson congratulates the Commissioner on his success. She further gave brief introduction of the organization saying ‘the state chapter of NYCN is the umbrella body for all youth organizations in the state. At present we have 66 registered member organizations some of which are community based, faith based, social youth club and a lot whose registration is under processing. We have zonal chapters accross the state and we operate in all the 33 LGAs’
‘This is our constituency as the name of this Ministry implies. Despite the differences in our political affiliations, our aim however, is to put Oyo first, work together for the betterment of the state, especially the youth sector’, she added.
She however used the opportunity of the visit to intimate the commissioner of the two major programmes left for the year- African Youth Day in November and Youth Festival in December.
The chairperson continued ‘we partner with youth based NGOs to carryout our programmes under the supervision of Oyo State Agency for Youth and Social Development’
The chairperson also promised that the body will always be available to support Ministry.
Adebobola said, ‘we will always be ready for mobilization of youth on request. We hereby seek collaboration and utmost support, when it comes to empowerment, employment and whatever opportunities, because this is the official mouth piece for youths in the state.’
In his response, the commissioner lauded the council and clearly stated his commitment to always represent the interest of the youths well.
Fakorede said, ‘I will build on the good things my predecessors have done, let’s sit up, so as to project what is good for us as we need to relinquish the old ways and bring new innovations that will work’
‘I can assure you, by God’s grace, resources will not be our problem, we can surely think outside the box and not put all our burden on the government. ‘It’s like I have been placed in my natural habitat, we are going to work hands in hands with the youth council. We can help out on youth marginalization and fair representation will be established’, he added.
In his concluding remarks, the Hon. Commissioner said ‘I see NYCN as one of the organization that are key to this ministry, I want us to have this kind of meeting regularly. Let’s find out what other youths anywhere are enjoying and we shall bring such opportunities to Oyo State. I’m glad we are putting Oyo first, we need everyone, election and politics have gone and this is time for governance’.
