The new Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Chuks Enwonwu, has resumed duty in the State.
The handing-over ceremony was held at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan on Monday.
At the event, CP Enwonwu warned those he described as criminal elements and criminally-minded people to either leave the State or get caught.
Noting that the crime-fighting strategies to be unveiled soon would be targeted towards sweeping and flushing crimes out of the State, the CP assured that the State would soon become too hot for those who perpetrate crimes and criminalities.
He said, “By the time we reel out our crime control strategies, they will know that if they have their hideout here, they will have to think twice and maybe go to other places.”
“Like they used to have Operation Flush and Operation Sweep in Lagos, that is exactly what I am bringing to Oyo State to flush and sweep crimes and criminalities out of Oyo State,” Enwonwu disclosed.
The CP urged officers and operatives in the Command to ensure they give due respect to the fundamental human rights of the people or get sanctioned, adding that the Command would collaborate with all relevant stakeholders and count on the support of the people.
Addressing the officers through the top Police officers who attended the handing over ceremony, Enwonwu stressed that the Dignity for the Fundamental Human Rights is a compulsory act for the Police, as contained in section 32 (45) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended).
He further enjoined the police officers in his jurisdiction to sit up, maintain a high level of discipline and good tempo of performance, and give their utmost cooperation in their various divisions.
The CP commended the outgoing CP, Shina Olukolu, for the effort he made at increasing and upholding professionalism in the Command, appealing to the officers to show him same support in order for him to succeed.
He stated, “Short standard of duties will not be accommodated. We should join hands and bring the crime rate in Oyo State to the minimum rate. I equally want to commend the outgoing CP, Shina Olukolu, for the great job he has done.”
Enwonwu assured the people of Oyo State of continuous quality service, urging them to be law-abiding and make available credible information to the Police to aid them in performing their constitutional responsibilities.
He noted that only a crime-free environment would enable the masses to go out for their day-to-day activities and woo foreign investors to establish businesses in the State.
The outgoing CP, Shina Olukolu, in his address, advised the new Commissioner to embrace the open door policy of his administration, adding that he will never forget the officers and the people of Oyo State as he is not going out of the Police Force but moving on to serve in another capacity.
Olukolu is redeployed to serve at the Anti-Fraud Unit (FCID Annex), Lagos, in a recent redeployment exercise by the Police authorities.
